Description:
This application seeks to reduce direct fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions in the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) nonattainment area through conversion of solid-fueled heating devices and oil heating appliances to natural gas or propane and extends the availability of natural gas to underserved communities via mainline extensions.
Activities:
The recipient will implement activities within the scope of the Targeted Airshed Grant Program including: 335 SFBA and fuel oil conversions to gas, the continuation of 2 permanent full-time employees to expand conversion processing for 1 year, expanding education and outreach, and the expansion of IGU gas lines to EJ areas.
Subrecipient:
Fund 5 staff members for the Interior Gas Utility that will identify eligible households and extend natural gas lines. Fund 2 staff for the Fairbanks North Star Borough whom will work on the SFBA and oil to gas or propane conversions along with education and outreach.
Outcomes:
The anticipated deliverables and outcomes of this award include: the direct beneficiaries of this program include Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) residents who will have decreased exposure to direct fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions along with the extension of the availability of natural gas to underserved communities.
