Cooperative Agreement

Overview

Grant Description
Description: The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) will implement Phase II of the Port Fourchon Marsh Creation Project funded through Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) (16 U.S.C.A., Sections 3951-3956), located in CWPPRA Planning Region 3, Terrebonne Basin, Lafourche Parish.

Activities: The primary goals of this project are to restore degraded wetland habitat and provide increased protection from storm surge and flooding.

Activities include the creation of 445 acres and nourishment of 98 acres of marsh with dredged material from Belle Pass.

The project would evaluate the use of a sustainable sediment source by hydraulically dredging sediment from a borrow area in the Belle Pass Channel.

Earthen containment dikes (ECDs) will be created and then later gapped utilizing an adaptive management approach within three years of implementation to allow greater tidal exchange and estuarine organism access.

Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.

Outcomes: The Port Fourchon Marsh Creation Project will create approximately 445 acres and nourish approximately 98 acres of marsh with sediments hydraulically dredged from Belle Pass.

This project helps to further CWPPRA goals by restoring wetland habitats, protecting critical infrastructure, and supporting stakeholder priorities.

The beneficiaries of the project are the citizens of the State of Louisiana.
