Grant Description
Description: The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) will implement Phase II of the Reggio Marsh Creation and Hydrologic Restoration Project (BS-0043) in the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) Region 2, St. Bernard Parish.
This project creates and nourishes approximately 519 acres of marsh near the town of Reggio, Louisiana, in areas that were historically marsh land but are now largely open water.
Activities: Sediment will be hydraulically dredged from a borrow source in Lake Lery.
Interim training and temporary containment dikes will be developed and gapped within three years of implementation to allow greater tidal exchange and estuarine organism access.
A sediment retention terrace is planned to protect existing marsh.
Restoration in this area would build the area's defenses against hurricanes and flooding.
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
