Grant Description
Description: The agreement provides assistance to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to implement a program of voluntary testing for lead in drinking water at local schools and childcare centers.
Specifically, the recipient will oversee and fund the lead testing in school and childcare program drinking water grant program for Texas schools including sampling, outreach, communication, and remediation.
Activities: The activities involve implementation of the lead testing in drinking water in schools and childcare facilities program, according to the Environmental Program Agency's (EPA) training, testing, and taking action (3TS) guidance for reducing lead contamination.
This includes public communication about lead testing programs and results, training officials on lead-related health effects, and conducting tests to identify issues.
The goal is to develop and implement a plan to reduce lead contamination and effectively communicate with parents, staff, and the community.
Subrecipient: Pass-through contract with University of Texas-Arlington for Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) review.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include number of presentations/participants trained to establish local sampling programs based on Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) 3TS guidance, development of program documents and ensure grant objectives are met, coordination of the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) which ensures consistency with program requirements, annual reporting to the EPA, number of samples received by laboratory that were shipped by participants, and number of samples analyzed.
The expected outcomes include implementing and execution of a sampling and mitigation lead exposure-based program using the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) 3TS guidance.
The intended beneficiaries include schools and childcares of the state of Texas.
