Description:
The purpose of this program is to improve the ecological health of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin. This agreement provides funding to the University of New Orleans Research and Technology Foundation (UNORTF) to support the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Restoration Program which maintains, protects, and restores the water quality of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin, as well as promoting climate change resiliency and benefiting underserved communities. UNORTF will oversee subaward grantee projects consistent with the Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan (CCMP). Projects may include ecosystem and habitat restoration, water quality improvement, nutrient load reduction, climate resilience, environmental education and outreach, and local capacity building. This agreement is supported by funding provided under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) (PL 117-58).
Activities:
The University of New Orleans Research and Technology Foundation (UNORTF) will oversee subaward grantee projects defined under Clean Water Act (CWA) 121(D): restoration projects, scientific studies, and public outreach projects. Subaward projects should prioritize providing measurable benefits to underserved communities and reducing climate change impacts to communities. Projects may include monitoring, determining the health of the watershed, improving climate change resiliency, protecting fish and wildlife habitat, developing green infrastructure and nonpoint source implementation projects, educating residents about water protection and pollution prevention in the basin, or other projects consistent with the Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan.

Subaward project activities may include projects as mentioned in A.23.B.
Outcomes:
Anticipated outcomes and deliverables include improved water quality of the basin, restored habitat, increased awareness of water quality protection and improved pollution prevention programs in the watershed. The beneficiaries of the program are the residents of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin. The program goal is to significantly improve Lake Pontchartrain Basin's environmental health and climate resilience in an equitable manner in communities across the basin's watershed. Intended beneficiaries include the residents of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin.
