Grant Description
Purpose: Support the Puget Sound Shellfish Strategic Initiative 2.0 and its subaward program.
Activities Performed:
- Update the Shellfish Implementation Strategy.
- Lead decision-making, oversight, and adaptive management of EPA Puget Sound Shellfish funds for shellfish protection and recovery (e.g., manure, pet waste, septic systems).
- Coordinate with stakeholders.
- Make and manage subawards.
- Plan for climate change.
Deliverables and Expected Outcomes:
- Updated Shellfish Implementation Strategy and Subaward Plan.
- Contracting and subawardee progress and reporting.
Outcomes:
- Reduce pathogen sources.
- Upgrade shellfish acres in Puget Sound.
Beneficiaries:
- Puget Sound shellfish harvesters, including commercial growers and tribes.
- The public, including people who visit beaches or freshwater streams in Puget Sound, will benefit from reduced exposure to pathogens.
Subrecipient Activities:
- Implement agricultural best management practices (BMPs).
- Find and fix sources of fecal pollution.
- Conduct outreach and education, among other activities.
