Grant Description
Description: This agreement provides funding under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to Utah Department of Environmental Quality for the expansion and enhancement of their air monitoring activities.

Specifically, the recipient will purchase, install, and operate new ambient air monitoring sites.

The monitoring station will include a shelter, fencing, met tower, and additional supporting equipment.

The recipient will maintain, operate, and upgrade existing monitoring stations in multiple counties.

Data from the sensors will be submitted to Air Quality System.

The recipient will maintain an existing National Air Toxics Trends Station (NATTS) site.

A Copper Environmental Xact 625i ambient metals monitoring system will be set up in a mobile shelter that can be relocated around the monitoring network.

An additional stationary one will also be set up.

A sensor study will be conducted.

The study will test low-cost sensors that might be suitable to deploy to remote areas.

Activities: The activities include purchasing, installing, and operating new regulatory multi pollutant monitoring stations and supporting existing monitoring stations in multiple counties in Utah.

The support for the existing sensors will cover greater than 90 instruments.

The data from the sensors will be submitted to Air Quality System.

The recipient will set up mobile and stationary Copper Environmental Xact 625i ambient metals monitoring systems.

The recipient will maintain a NATTS site.

Equipment may be purchased in order to replace older equipment on the NATTS site.

The recipient will also conduct a sensor study on low-cost sensors.

The recipient will also submit timely reports to the EPA.

The final report will be submitted to the EPA within 120 days of the completion of the period of performance.

Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.

Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include five new areas measuring air pollution at new multipollutant air monitoring sites.

Existing air monitoring sites and equipment will be supported and upgraded with new equipment.

An existing NATTS site will be maintained and updated as needed.

The grantee will attend one training for air quality monitoring.

There will be development of the quality assurance.

The expected outcomes include an increased amount of disadvantaged communities monitored for air quality and problem identification.

There will be an increased public awareness of ambient air quality.

Access to information and tools will increase understanding and reduce environmental and human health risks.

This project will provide information about air quality in previously unmonitored areas which could change the behavior of the public and increase sustainability.

This could lead to reduced human exposure to certain air pollutants.

The new monitoring will help with informed policy and decision making in Utah.

The intended beneficiaries include those that reside and work in Utah.
