Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Description: The agreement provides funding under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to Utah Department of Environmental Quality (UDEQ), Division of Air Quality (UDAQ) to replace in-use, non-zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles with new zero-emission vehicles to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in EPA Region 8.
The recipient will replace 83 eligible vehicles with comparable, eligible zero-emission vehicles under the Vocational Vehicles Sub-Program, resulting in cleaner air and improved health for communities in Box Elder, Cache, Davis, Duchesne, Salt Lake, Tooele, Uintah, Utah, Washington, and Weber counties.
Activities: The activities include replacing eligible internal combustion engine Class 6 and Class 7 vehicles with eligible zero-emission vehicles; purchasing, installing, operating, and maintaining charging and fueling equipment to maintain the new zero-emission vehicles; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance, charging, fueling, and operation of the new zero-emission vehicles.
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include replacement of 50 Class 6 and Class 7 internal combustion engine straight/box trucks and 33 Class 6 and Class 7 internal combustion engine step vans with zero-emission vehicles.
The recipient will install 40 Level 2 and 43 DC fast charging units.
Safety planning, operational planning, workforce development, and protocol development will also be pursued, along with community engagement activities focused on the project.
The expected outcomes include reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in the communities in which the vehicles operate, greater public awareness of the project and its results, and improved work safety and operational and workforce-related practices.
The intended beneficiaries include the State of Utah (grantee), Rocky Mountain Power/Pacificorp (partner), and the disadvantaged community residents who will benefit from improved ambient air quality in communities in which the vehicles operate.
