Grant Description
Description: Brownfields are real property, the expansion, development or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.
This agreement provides funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to Volunteers of America National Services.
The recipient will conduct remediation activities as authorized by CERCLA 104(k)(3) at Sunset Park in Denver, Colorado.
Activities: Specifically, this agreement will provide funding to the recipient to clean up a brownfield site.
Additionally, the recipient will competitively procure (as needed) and direct a qualified environmental professional to conduct environmental site activities, will create a community involvement plan and administrative record for the site, and will report on interim progress and final accomplishments by completing and submitting relevant portions of the Property Profile Form using EPA's Assessment, Cleanup and Redevelopment Exchange System (ACRES).
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes: Volunteers of America National Services will use this grant money to clean up asbestos at Sunset Park, located at 1865 Larimer Street in Denver, Colorado.
Sunset Park is a 14-story, 238-unit residential building used for affordable housing that serves seniors and persons with disabilities.
The recipient will remediate the brownfields site before moving forward with renovations to enhance safety, accessibility, livability, and dignity for the residents.
Further, the recipient anticipates holding two community meetings, finalizing the analysis of brownfield cleanup alternatives (including a public comment period), and submitting quarterly reports throughout the grant.
Work conducted under this agreement will benefit the residents, business owners, and stakeholders in and near Denver, Colorado.
