Grant Description
Description: This agreement provides funding to the City of Joliet to implement its project to conduct final design and engineering work for three segments of the Alternative Water Source Program water transmission main as directed in the 2023 and 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act or as identified in an approved technical correction if one has been approved for this project.
Activities: The activities to be performed include the engineering and design of a drinking water infrastructure construction project.
Workplan activities consist of design engineering related to three AWSP work packages.
These activities include:
- AWSP-06-03 - Regional Water Transmission Main Segment C. This work package involves the construction of a total of approximately 4.0 miles of regional water transmission main ranging in diameter from 42-inches to 48-inches.
- AWSP-07-01 - Cal-Sag Crossing. This work package involves the construction of approximately 675 feet of 10-foot diameter rock tunnel and two tunnel shafts to carry 66-inch diameter water transmission main beneath the Cal-Sag Channel.
- AWSP-07-02 - Des Plaines River Crossing. This work package involves the construction of approximately 4100 feet of 10-foot diameter rock tunnel and two tunnel shafts to carry 66-inch diameter water transmission main beneath the Illinois and Michigan Canal, the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, and the Des Plaines River.
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include 100% completed engineering and design for three crucial AWSP work packages.
The expected outcomes include a safe, long-term, sustainable, and high-quality source of drinking water.
The intended beneficiaries include the six member communities of the Grand Prairie Water Commission and their approximate 250,000 residents.
