Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Description: The agreement provides funding under the Inflation Reduction Act to Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy to replace in-use, non-zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles with new zero-emission vehicles to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in EPA Region 5.
The recipient will replace 15 eligible vehicles with comparable, eligible zero-emission vehicles under the Vocational Vehicles Sub-Program, resulting in cleaner air and improved health for Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties in Michigan.
Activities: The activities include replacing eligible internal combustion engine Class 7 vehicles with eligible zero-emission vehicles; purchasing, installing, operating, and maintaining charging equipment to maintain the new zero-emission vehicles; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance, charging, and operation of the new zero-emission vehicles.
Subrecipient: The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy is subawarding funds through their own grant program for the replacement of 15 Class 7 conventional diesel recycling trucks with zero emission battery electric trucks and associated charging equipment.
They plan to release their request for proposals and solicit applications from eligible subrecipients within the first three months of their project period.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include replacing 15 existing internal combustion engine Class 7 vehicles with zero-emissions vehicles, installing 15 DC fast charging units, training of drivers and technicians, and engaging in community engagement activities.
The expected outcomes include reduced greenhouse gas emissions, decreased daily exposure to emissions for drivers and operators, job creation, agency-wide support for the transition to a full electric fleet, and increased awareness of the benefits of electric vehicles.
The intended beneficiaries include the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy and community residents, including historically disadvantaged residents, who will benefit from improved ambient air quality in communities in which the vehicles operate.
