Grant Description
Description: The agreement provides funding under the Inflation Reduction Act to the Illinois State Board of Education to replace in-use, non-zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles with new zero-emission vehicles to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in the state of Illinois.

The recipient will replace 70 eligible vehicles with comparable, eligible zero-emission vehicles under the School Bus Sub-Program, resulting in cleaner air and improved health for the communities in Illinois.

Activities: The activities include replacing eligible internal combustion engine Class 7 vehicles with eligible zero-emission vehicles; purchasing, installing, operating, and maintaining charging equipment to maintain the new zero-emission vehicles; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance, charging, and operation of the new zero-emission vehicles.

Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.

Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include replacing 70 diesel and gasoline school buses with zero-emission school buses, installing 70 direct current fast charging stations, workforce training, and community engagement.

The expected outcomes include reduced greenhouse gases and criteria pollutant emissions, reduced maintenance and operation costs, improved air quality, and increased knowledge and adoption of electric vehicles in the state of Illinois.

The intended beneficiaries include the Illinois State Board of Education and residents of Cook, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties in Illinois.
