Overview
Grant Description
Description: The purpose of this award is to provide funding under the Inflation Reduction Act to the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi.
The recipient will implement greenhouse gas reduction programs, policies, projects, and measures identified in a priority climate action plan developed under a Climate Pollution Reduction Grants Planning Grant.
Activities conducted through this grant will benefit all residents and visitors to Pokagon Band Tribal Community through four main objectives:
Implementation of ambitious measures that will achieve significant cumulative greenhouse gas reductions by 2030 and beyond;
Pursuit of measures that will achieve substantial community benefits, particularly in low-income and disadvantaged communities;
Complementing other funding sources to maximize these greenhouse gas reductions and community benefits; and,
Pursuit of innovative policies and programs that are replicable and can be 'scaled up' across multiple jurisdictions.
Activities: The activities include installing rooftop solar and ground-mounted solar, retrofitting nine tribal buildings, installing EV charging stations, and the conversion of other gas-powered equipment.
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes: The outputs include collaboration with the Land Use Board to further community engagement within the Tribe, installation of solar panels generating 15 MWh of electricity annually, and the retrofitting of 9 tribal buildings with HVAC air-source/ground source heat pumps.
The expected outcomes include reductions of greenhouse gas emissions from natural gas consumption reduction and electricity usage, the reduction of criteria air pollutants from reduced fossil fuels, and nitrogen dioxide reductions.
The intended beneficiaries include members of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi community and surrounding areas.
