Grant Description
Description: The purpose of this award is to provide funding under the Inflation Reduction Act to Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

The recipient will implement greenhouse gas reduction programs, policies, projects, and measures identified in a priority climate action plan developed under a Climate Pollution Reduction Grants Planning Grant.

Activities conducted through this grant will benefit all residents and visitors to Lac Vieux Desert Band through four main objectives:

Implementation of ambitious measures that will achieve significant cumulative greenhouse gas reductions by 2030 and beyond;

Pursuit of measures that will achieve substantial community benefits, particularly in low-income and disadvantaged communities;

Complementing other funding sources to maximize these greenhouse gas reductions and community benefits; and,

Pursuit of innovative policies and programs that are replicable and can be 'scaled up' across multiple jurisdictions.

Activities: The activities include the implementation of 'Residential Net-Zero Housing' for 145 disadvantaged households which includes activities such as energy efficiency enhancement and home weatherization, renewable energy for 2 commercial buildings, and workforce matchmaking events and seminars.

Subrecipient: Elevate will provide staffing to support the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians with technical analysis and implementation in order to build their capacity to grow their energy and construction management expertise.

Outcomes: The anticipated outputs include healthy homes and energy efficiency assessments at 145 single family homes, installation of HVAC and electrical upgrades, installation of 145 solar arrays, installation and maintenance training, and community engagement meetings.

The expected outcomes include energy usage and cost reductions, workforce training, hazardous air pollutants reductions, clean power generation, and an increased community understanding of greenhouse gas reductions.

The intended beneficiaries include the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians community.
