Grant Description
Description: The purpose of this award is to provide funding under the Inflation Reduction Act to the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
The recipient will implement greenhouse gas reduction programs, policies, projects, and measures identified in a priority climate action plan developed under a Climate Pollution Reduction Grants planning grant.
Activities conducted through this grant will benefit all residents and visitors to Bad River Reservation through four main objectives:
Implementation of ambitious measures that will achieve significant cumulative greenhouse gas reductions by 2030 and beyond;
Pursuit of measures that will achieve substantial community benefits, particularly in low-income and disadvantaged communities;
Complementing other funding sources to maximize these greenhouse gas reductions and community benefits; and,
Pursuit of innovative policies and programs that are replicable and can be 'scaled up' across multiple jurisdictions.
Activities: The activities include performing electrification upgrades to homes, installing residential solar photovoltaics, installing a solar plus storage microgrid, leasing six new fully electric vehicles, installing electric vehicle charging infrastructure, performing community engagement, and developing professional development and training.
Subrecipient: Subawards will be awarded to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to facilitate community engagement workshops, Madison Area Technical College and Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University to implement workforce development programs.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include 200 homes with electrification upgrades, 85 residential solar photovoltaics installed, an operational microgrid at the recycling center, four charging stations installed, five community engagement events, and workforce development materials and courses.
The anticipated outcomes include a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, reduction in criteria pollutant emissions, improved energy efficiency and indoor air quality in tribal homes.
The intended beneficiaries include Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa tribal members.
