Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Description:
This agreement provides funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to the City of Akron, Ohio, to implement a project to support the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Specifically, the recipient will implement an interim bank stabilization remedy on a former power plant property in the Cuyahoga River Area of Concern (AOC) to support the future restoration of the Cuyahoga River to a natural, free-flowing channel.
Activities:
The activities include 1) procuring services for construction management, construction implementation, and engineering support during construction; 2) preparing required quality documentation; 3) implementing excavation, disposal, and grading activities on site; 4) implementing demolition of the bulkhead and sheet pile walls; 5) installing a stone revetment; 6) implementing a vibration monitoring plan; and 7) documenting all activities in a final report.
Subrecipient:
No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes:
The anticipated deliverables include a contractor quality control plan, progress report, and technical final report with results of the monitoring effort. The expected outcome is 500 feet of a stable and safe shoreline so the adjacent property can be used for construction access and staging, and so the future sediment removal and dam deconstruction projects can be implemented without failure of the shoreline and property. The intended beneficiaries include the City of Akron and other federal, state, and local entities working to restore and delist the Cuyahoga River AOC.
