Description:
This agreement provides assistance under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource to oversee the South Shore Beach Rehabilitation Project. Once implemented, this project will address the beach closings/recreational restrictions beneficial use impairments (BUI) in the Milwaukee Estuary Area of Concern (AOC).
Activities:
Activities include completing the design and construction phases of the South Shore Beach Improvements Project.
Subrecipient:
The Milwaukee County Parks will select a construction contractor through a competitive bid procurement process and prepare the Quality Assurance Project Plan.
Outcomes:
The deliverables include the final design and relocation of the existing swimming beach through the creation of a new swimming beach and conversion of the existing beach into a naturalized area, along with new features and amenities to promote access and improved water quality. The outcome of the project is to have a beach with significantly less closures due to bacterial contamination. Intended beneficiaries are all those who live, recreate, or work in the Milwaukee Estuary AOC.
