Overview
Grant Description
Description: The purpose of this award is to provide funding under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to the Passamaquoddy Indian Township Tribe.
The recipient will implement greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction programs, policies, projects, and measures identified in a Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) developed under a Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) planning grant.
Activities conducted through this grant will benefit all residents and visitors to the State of Maine, Princeton Maine, and Passamaquoddy Indian Township through four main objectives:
Implementation of ambitious measures that will achieve significant cumulative GHG reductions by 2030 and beyond;
Pursuit of measures that will achieve substantial community benefits, particularly in low-income and disadvantaged communities;
Complementing other funding sources to maximize these GHG reductions and community benefits; and,
Pursuit of innovative policies and programs that are replicable and can be 'scaled up' across multiple jurisdictions.
Activities: The activities include the construction of a distributed community microgrid.
This includes providing solar photovoltaic installations with whole-home battery backup and load management to 202 single-family homes and 2 multi-family units.
This project will also provide grid-tied photovoltaic systems for 2 critical municipal buildings - the Tribal Health Center and Government Office.
This represents 4,559 photovoltaic panels (1,938 kilowatts direct current) with 2,808 kilowatt hours of energy storage system capacity, generating upwards of 1,935,833 kilowatt hours of renewable energy per year.
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include the implementation of solar installations on 204 homes and 2 tribal office buildings.
This represents 4,559 photovoltaic panels (1,938 kilowatts direct current) with 2,808 kilowatt hours energy storage system capacity, generating upwards of 1,935,833 kilowatt hours of renewable energy per year.
The estimated cumulative greenhouse gas reductions for 2025 - 2030 is 6,607 metric tons, and for 2025 - 2050 is 31,751 metric tons.
The intended beneficiaries include the State of Maine, the Town of Princeton, and the tribal community at Passamaquoddy Indian Township.
