Description

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking applications for a cooperative agreement from qualified entities to implement the Prosperous and Resilient Landscapes program. Eligibility for this award is not restricted. USAID intends to make an award to the applicant(s) who best meets the objectives of this funding opportunity based on the merit review criteria described in this NOFO subject to a risk assessment. Eligible parties interested in submitting an application are encouraged to read this NOFO thoroughly to understand the type of program sought, application submission requirements and selection process. To be eligible for award, the applicant must provide all information as required in this NOFO and meet eligibility standards in Section C of this NOFO.

Background
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking applications for a cooperative agreement from qualified entities to implement the Prosperous and Resilient Landscapes program. The purpose of this five year, $30 million Prosperous and Resilient Landscapes Activity is to reduce Guatemala’s land-based greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon sequestration from land use. The activity will increase the prosperity and resilience of rural Guatemalan communities in the Western Highlands, Alta, and Baja Verapaz, and Peten by investing in activities that reduce the drivers of deforestation and increase forest cover while improving livelihoods, especially for forest dependent communities, indigenous peoples, women, and youth.

Grant Details
The objectives of the Prosperous and Resilient Landscapes Activity are to reduce land-based greenhouse gas emissions in Guatemala and increase carbon sequestration. The activity will work across four strategic approaches: forest conservation, sustainable forest management, integrated fire management; applying climate-smart livestock practices; landscape restoration; and improving and expanding agroforestry systems and sustainable soil management practices. The Activity will contribute to USAID/Guatemala Country Development and Cooperation Strategy 2020-2025, U.S. Strategy for Addressing the Root Causes of Migration in Central America, USAID’s Climate Change Strategy, USAID’s New Partnership Initiative, USAID’s Policy on Promoting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (PRO-IP), USAID’s Gender Equality and Female Empowerment Policy, as well as the Build Back Better World (B3W) initiative.

Eligibility for this award is not restricted. Interested parties must provide all information as required in the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) and meet eligibility standards in Section C of this NOFO.

The period of performance for this grant is five years.
