Background
The U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) is a program established by the Department of State to support the preservation of cultural heritage in priority countries. The program aims to preserve archaeological sites, historic buildings, monuments, museum collections, and forms of traditional cultural expression such as indigenous languages and crafts.

Grant Details
The AFCP supports individual projects that involve activities such as anastylosis, conservation, consolidation, documentation, inventory, preventive conservation, restoration, and stabilization. The length of the performance period is 12 to 60 months with 20-30 awards anticipated per year. The total available funding is estimated at $6 million with individual grant awards ranging from $10,000 to $500,000. The proposed projects should be completed in 60 months or less.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include foreign institutions of higher education, foreign-based non-profit organizations/NGOs, foreign public entities (where permitted), U.S. non-profit organizations (IRC section 501(c)(3)), and U.S. institutions of higher education. There is no minimum or maximum percentage of cost participation required for this competition. All entities must have a valid and active registration on www.SAM.gov.

Period of Performance
The performance period for proposed projects should be completed in 60 months or less.

The Department of State will entertain applications for continuation grants funded under these awards beyond the initial budget period on a non-competitive basis subject to availability of funds and satisfactory progress of the project.
