Background
The TMD Collaborative for Improving Patient-Centered Translational Research (TMD IMPACT) is initiated by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), specifically through the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) and other participating organizations.

The purpose of this grant is to establish a national, interdisciplinary, patient-centered research collaborative aimed at advancing basic and clinical research on Temporomandibular Disorders (TMDs), enhancing research training, and translating findings into evidence-based treatments and improved clinical care.

TMDs affect a significant portion of the U.S. population, leading to pain and compromised quality of life, necessitating a coordinated approach to research and treatment.

Grant Details
The TMD IMPACT Collaborative will consist of one or more Centers that coordinate shared resources and expertise across various disciplines.

Key objectives include:
1) Supporting rigorous TMD basic research for clinically relevant insights;
2) Developing translational programs to improve diagnosis, prevention, and treatment;
3) Strengthening population-based research on the public health burden of TMDs;
4) Training a diverse future biomedical workforce.

Each Center application must include an Administrative Core, Bioinformatics/Data Science Core, Outreach, Training, and Education Core, and one to three Research Projects. Specific tasks include managing day-to-day activities, coordinating regulatory documentation, conducting secondary data analyses using AI/ML/DL approaches, engaging stakeholders for outreach and education, and developing curricula for training future researchers.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public/state-controlled or private), nonprofits (with or without 501(c)(3) status), for-profit organizations (including small businesses), local/state/county governments, tribal governments, federal agencies, independent school districts, public housing authorities, faith-based organizations, regional organizations. Foreign organizations are not eligible to apply but can have non-domestic components.

Period of Performance
The maximum project period is five years with an anticipated start date of January 10, 2025.

Grant Value
The NIH intends to commit an estimated total cost of $7 million per year to fund up to two awards. Application budgets are not limited but should reflect the actual needs of the proposed project.
