The Award Ceiling for Year 1 is 0 (none). CDC anticipates an Approximate Total Fiscal Year Funding amount of $5,000,000 for Year 1, subject to the availability of funds. This NOFO will provide technical assistance (TA) to the National and sub-National departments of health (DoH) to develop and implement digital health platforms to enable interoperability of national health information systems (HIS); clinical systems, laboratory systems, demographic (HPRS) program monitoring (WebDHIS), differentiated service delivery systems, mHealth, and other systems and subsystems to improve the utility of available solutions and increase their impact at all levels of the health system. Recipient(s) will work in consultation with and aligned to the policies of the National DoH (NDoH) to: improve the ability of HIS to support high-quality patient-centered services, data quality, and subsequent data use to achieve health sector objectives; work closely with the National DoH (NDoH) and other HIS stakeholders to organize the development, implementation, and scale-up of HIS to support the integration of the HIS in South Africa; improve existing HIS to support the use of data from integrated systems, patient-centered healthcare services, and data use for planning and decision-making processes; work in consultation with and aligned to the policies of the NDoH, and collaborate with Provincial DoH (PDoH) and other district support partners (DSPs) to meet national digital strategic objectives and ensure system sustainability at all levels; and conduct process and outcome evaluation checks to monitor progress towards meeting expected NOFO outcomes.

Background
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is offering a Technical Assistance (TA) grant to support the Health Information Systems (HIS) of the South African Government. The grant aims to provide technical assistance to develop and implement digital health platforms, enable interoperability of national health information systems, and improve the utility of available solutions at all levels of the health system.

The grant also aims to improve patient-level data systems at the National and Sub-National Departments of Health (DoH) under PEPFAR.

Grant Details
The recipient(s) will provide TA to the National and sub-National departments of health (DoH) to develop and implement digital health platforms. This includes improving HIS to support high-quality patient-centered services, data quality, and subsequent data use; working closely with stakeholders to organize the development, implementation, and scale-up of HIS; conducting process and outcome evaluation checks; and supporting the integration of existing digital health platforms. The program is authorized under Public Law 108-25, Public Law 110-293, and Public Law 113-56.
