Description

The Administrator of the Administration for Community Living establishes a priority for the funding of a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model Systems National Data and Statistical Center. This Center will advance medical rehabilitation by increasing the rigor and efficiency of scientific efforts to longitudinally assess the experience of individuals with SCI. This Center must maintain the national longitudinal database for data submitted by each of the SCI Model Systems Centers. This Center must also ensure collection of high quality data, and support rigorous research by the Model Systems centers by monitoring data quality, providing training in the collection of SCI Model Systems data, providing methodological consultation to these centers, and other collaborative tasks.
Background
The Administrator of the Administration for Community Living establishes a priority for the funding of a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model Systems National Data and Statistical Center. This Center will advance medical rehabilitation by increasing the rigor and efficiency of scientific efforts to longitudinally assess the experience of individuals with SCI. The SCI Model System Centers have developed a national, longitudinal database that contains information on approximately 49,743 people injured since 1973. The SCI Model Systems National Database is the world’s most extensive source of information available about the characteristics and life course of people with SCI.

Grant Details
The Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model Systems National Data and Statistical Center must maintain the national longitudinal database for data submitted by each of the SCI Model Systems Centers. It must ensure collection of high-quality data, support rigorous research by monitoring data quality, providing training in collecting SCI Model Systems data, and providing methodological consultation to these centers.

The Center must also work with SCI Model System Centers to increase follow-up rates and ensure data quality. Additionally, it should collaborate with other model systems data centers and promote synergy with other SCI research initiatives.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include states; public or private agencies, including for-profit agencies; public or private organizations, including for-profit organizations; IHEs; and Indian tribes and tribal organizations.

Period of Performance
The project period is 60 months with five 12-month budget periods.

Grant Value
$692,500 is the estimated total funding for one award, with an award ceiling of $692,500 per budget period and an award floor of $685,500 per budget period.
