The purpose of the U54 CHD-MH SPORE Program is to fund a network of multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional translational research SPOREs uniquely focused on 1) health disparities and/or minority health research and 2) the development of novel-cancer relevant interventions in underserved populations with cancer or at risk for cancer.

Background
The U54 CHD-MH SPORE Program is a network of multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional translational research SPOREs focused on health disparities and/or minority health research and the development of novel-cancer relevant interventions in underserved populations with cancer or at risk for cancer. The program is funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) under the Department of Health and Human Services.

Grant Details
The program supports translational research projects focused on prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of human cancers in underserved populations. It encourages collaborative research involving basic science objectives relevant to human cancer and reaching a translational human endpoint within the 5-year project period. The program also emphasizes community outreach, engagement, and collaboration, as well as the development of novel methodologies and human endpoints centered around pilot/feasibility studies, retrospective analysis of tissue samples/existing clinical datasets, and community-based oncology.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, state and local governments, federal agencies, U.S. territories or possessions, Native American tribal organizations, faith-based or community-based organizations, and regional organizations. Foreign organizations are not eligible to apply directly but can participate as foreign components.

Period of Performance
The maximum project period is 5 years. The open date for submission is August 26, 2024. The earliest start date is September 26, 2024.

Grant Value
NCI intends to commit $80M to fund approximately 4 awards. Applicants may request a maximum of $1.6M in direct costs per year.
