Grant Details
The SWIFR Grants for Political Subdivisions will fund a variety of projects aimed at improving post-consumer materials management infrastructure. Eligible projects may include:

- Establishing or optimizing collection systems;
- Constructing or upgrading recycling facilities;
- Enhancing technology for waste management;
- Developing programs for prevention, reuse, and recycling;
- Improving access to composting facilities;
- Creating educational outreach initiatives.

Projects must demonstrate measurable outcomes such as increased recycling rates, reduced contamination in recycled materials, or improved access to recycling services in underserved areas. Notably, activities related to constructing or operating landfills or incineration are not eligible for funding.

Eligibility Requirements

Additionally, coalitions of small or rural entities can apply together under this funding opportunity. At least $23,200,000 is reserved for projects that specifically benefit disadvantaged communities as defined by the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool.

The total estimated funding available for this opportunity is approximately $58,000,000. Individual awards will range from a minimum of $500,000 to a maximum of $5,000,000.
