Grant Details
The SIG Program invites applications from groups of NIH-supported investigators to purchase or upgrade a single state-of-the-art commercially available instrument or an integrated instrumentation system. Eligible instruments include supercomputing clusters, radiology imaging systems, electron microscopes, and various types of spectrometers and sequencers.

The minimum award is $300,000 with a maximum award of $5,000,000. Cost sharing is required for premium instruments over $1,000,000. Instruments must be optimally shared among users to ensure efficient operations and collaborative research. Applications for general-purpose computer systems are only considered if dedicated solely to biomedical research. NIH discourages requests for leased instruments unless justified as state-of-the-art at the time of award.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), nonprofits, for-profit organizations (including small businesses), local and state governments, tribal governments, and other entities as specified. Non-domestic entities are not eligible to apply. Institutions may submit multiple applications if they request different types of equipment.

Period of Performance
The award project period is one year only.

Grant Value
The minimum award is $300,000 with a maximum award limit of $5,000,000.

Place of Performance
The grant will be performed at institutions that are NIH-supported.
