Request for Information (RFI): Domestic Turbine Manufacturing Needs

Background
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to gather insights from entities experienced in manufacturing gas turbines for the 60 Hz U.S. market.

The initiative aims to address the increasing electricity demand in the United States, which is projected to grow significantly over the next decade, thereby straining supply chains for turbine equipment. The DOE seeks to ensure reliable and affordable access to electricity, aligning with several executive orders aimed at enhancing energy security and reliability.

Grant Details
The RFI seeks input on various topics related to domestic turbine manufacturing capabilities, including:
- Factors constraining manufacturing capability such as raw materials, component supply, manufacturing process limitations, and workforce gaps.
- Technologies that could enhance manufacturing throughput including yield enhancements, scrap reduction, lead-time reduction, and quality assurance.
- Non-technical supply chain constraints such as sourcing components from outside the U.S. and related industry demands affecting turbine component supply.

Respondents are encouraged to provide information on their manufacturing methods including forging, casting, forming, coating, machining, joining, additive manufacturing, and assembly processes.

Eligibility Requirements
Entities with experience in gas turbine manufacturing are eligible to respond. This includes original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Tier 1 direct component suppliers, Tier 2 sub-suppliers, and Tier 3 material suppliers.

Period of Performance
Responses are due by January 30, 2026.
