Description

The Preventive Health and Health Services (PHHS) Block Grant Program allows recipients to address their own unique public health needs and challenges with evidence based, innovative and community-driven methods. Recipients set their own goals and program objectives to address local priorities.

Background
The Preventive Health and Health Services (PHHS) Block Grant Program is administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with the mission to address unique public health needs through evidence-based, innovative, and community-driven methods. The goal of this grant is to empower recipients to set their own objectives to meet local public health priorities, as directed by Public Law 115-245.

Grant Details
Recipients are expected to implement innovative and community-driven methods that address priority public health needs. Key tasks include addressing emerging health issues and gaps, decreasing premature death and disabilities by focusing on leading preventable risk factors, supporting local programs for healthy communities, and establishing data and surveillance systems to monitor health status. The program also tracks the use of funding across recipients using key indicators that measure improvements in data collection, operational efficiency, addressing public health needs, and implementing effective interventions. Unallowable costs include the purchase of naloxone, syringes, drug disposal programs, clinical care (except as allowed by law), and any publicity or propaganda expenses.

Eligible applicants include all 50 U.S. states (State Health Departments), the District of Columbia, two American Indian Tribes (Santee Sioux; Kickapoo Tribe, KS), five U.S. Territories (Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Republic of Palau), and three Freely Associated States (Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa).

Period of Performance
The period of performance for the grant is from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2026.
