Description

Posted: Sept. 4, 2025, 12:00 a.m. EDT

The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to continue support for a nonhuman primate (NHP) reagent resource that enables rigorous and reproducible research in NHP models through the development, production, and distribution of NHP-specific immunologic reagents that are not commercially available or, if commercially available, are not optimized for use in NHPs. The over-arching goal is to accelerate cures, vaccines, and treatments for immune-mediated diseases and emerging and reemerging infectious diseases by facilitating robust preclinical research in NHPs.

Background
The Nonhuman Primate Reagent Resource (NHPRR) is a funding opportunity issued by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), specifically the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support the development, production, and distribution of nonhuman primate (NHP)-specific immunologic reagents that are essential for rigorous and reproducible research in NHP models.

The overarching goal is to accelerate the development of cures, vaccines, and treatments for immune-mediated diseases and emerging infectious diseases by facilitating robust preclinical research in NHPs.

Grant Details
The NHPRR will identify, obtain, develop, characterize, produce, evaluate, and distribute key immunologic reagents for NHP research. This includes:
1) Development, acquisition, production, and distribution of immunologic reagents such as monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), soluble receptors/ligands, and chimeric mAbs;
2) Creation and maintenance of a public website with a searchable reagent catalog;
3) Management activities including outreach to the scientific community to identify evolving reagent needs;
4) Quality control procedures for each product line;
5) Maintenance of inventories for timely distribution of reagents. Applicants must propose development of at least two new candidate immunologic reagents not commercially available or not optimally formulated for NHP use.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public/state controlled and private), nonprofits (with or without 501(c)(3) status), for-profit organizations (including small businesses), local governments, state governments, county governments, city or township governments, special district governments, Indian/Native American tribal governments (federally recognized and others), federal agencies, public housing authorities, faith-based organizations, regional organizations. Foreign organizations are not eligible to apply.

Period of Performance
The maximum project period allowed is five years. The earliest start date for awarded projects is October 28, 2025.

Grant Value
NIAID intends to commit approximately $1.3 million in FY 2026 to fund one award. Application budgets are not limited but should reflect the actual needs of the proposed project.

Place of Performance
The specific geographic location(s) where the grant will be performed has not been explicitly stated in the provided document.
