The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) is establishing a Technology Development Coordinating Center for the Biomaterials Network to accelerate biomaterials-based technology development. The Biomaterials Network aims to address translational barriers faced by biomaterials-based technologies and includes technology development projects, a resource center for translation, and a Coordinating Center. The Coordinating Center will enhance integration between components of the NIBIB Biomaterials Network, disseminate program advances, develop resources and outreach strategies, and manage an Opportunity Funds program to support small-scale work that advances translational development of innovative biomaterials-based platform technologies.

Grant Details
The Coordinating Center will be responsible for facilitating collaborations and accelerating translation of biomaterials-based technologies, disseminating advances, developing outreach materials, engaging the community, providing opportunity funds, and managing an annual two-day investigator meeting. It will also coordinate working groups, develop and maintain the Biomaterials Network program website, and provide informational resources focused on technology transfer. The grant period is 5 years with a total funding commitment of $11.7M from FY 2024 to FY 2028.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, state and local governments, federal agencies, U.S. territories or possessions, Native American tribal organizations, faith-based or community-based organizations, and regional organizations. Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply. Applicants must have active registrations in System for Award Management (SAM), NATO Commercial and Government Entity (NCAGE) Code (if applicable), eRA Commons, and Grants.gov.

Period of Performance
The grant period is 5 years starting from May 31, 2023. The annual meetings are expected to serve as venues to facilitate sharing of research findings, promote the exchange of ideas, and enable discussion of opportunities and challenges in biomaterials technology development.
