NIA Multi-site Clinical Trial Implementation Grant (R01 Clinical Trial Required)

ID: PAR-25-222 • Type: Posted

Description

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites applications for implementation of investigator-initiated multi-site interventional clinical trials (all phases). The trials should be hypothesis-driven, milestone-defined, and related to NIA's research mission. Information about NIA's mission can be found on the NIA website.
Background
The National Institute on Aging (NIA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is committed to advancing understanding of the aging process and addressing the diseases and special needs of older adults. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites applications for the implementation of investigator-initiated multi-site interventional clinical trials that are hypothesis-driven, milestone-defined, and aligned with NIA's research mission.

Grant Details
The grant supports multi-site clinical trials across all phases that focus on significant health issues relevant to aging. Proposed studies must meet NIH's definition of a clinical trial, which involves assigning human subjects to interventions to evaluate health-related outcomes. Applications should demonstrate that the trials are not duplicative, are well-designed, adequately powered, and can be completed within the NOFO's time limits. Successful applicants are expected to integrate with NIA's Clinical Research Operations Management System (CROMS) for data management and oversight. The trials should also ensure timely publication of findings to benefit the scientific community.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, local and state governments, tribal governments, and foreign entities. Special encouragement is given to institutions serving underrepresented groups such as Hispanic-serving Institutions and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Individuals from diverse backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.

Period of Performance
The maximum project period for funded projects is 5 years. The earliest start date for awarded applications is February 5, 2025.

Grant Value
Application budgets are not limited but must reflect the actual needs of the proposed project. The total value of grants will depend on NIH appropriations and the number of meritorious applications received.
