Grant Details
The Research Specialist Award is designed to provide salary support and autonomy for clinician scientists engaged in NCI-sponsored clinical trials. Key tasks include:
1) Development of national clinical trials;
2) Implementation of NCI clinical trials at their institutions;
3) Participation in scientific review committees and monitoring committees. The award supports a minimum of 2.4 and a maximum of 4.8 person-months of salary for the Research Specialist, along with travel costs for attending research meetings/conferences, capped at $2,500 per year, and $2,000 per year for attending an annual meeting for award recipients. The total project period may not exceed five years.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants must be clinician scientists with a clinical degree (M.D., D.O., etc.) or a Ph.D. in a relevant field who are actively practicing in an oncology setting. They must have been involved in NCI-funded cancer clinical trial activities and have been at their institution for at least two years prior to application. Applicants cannot hold significant NIH funding as Principal Investigators at the time of application but can have limited support from other NIH mechanisms.

Period of Performance
The total award project period may not exceed five years, with specific performance requirements regarding person-months dedicated to NCI-funded clinical activities.

Grant Value
The total value of the grant is contingent upon NIH appropriations, with individual awards providing salary support for 2.4 to 4.8 person-months per year plus specified travel costs.
