This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is one of three FOAs that will support a comprehensive effort by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to provide infrastructure to develop and conduct national cancer screening clinical trials and studies through the Cancer Screening Research Network (CSRN). The primary goal of the CSRN is the conduct of multi-center cancer screening trials and studies. This Network is designed to take advantage of large and diverse populations receiving routine care in a variety of healthcare settings. The CSRN will engage these populations in rigorous studies focused on cancer screening to improve early cancer detection and evaluate emerging cancer screening modalities with the ultimate goal of reducing cancer incidence, and cancer-related morbidity and mortality.

Background

The primary goal of the CSRN is the conduct of multi-center cancer screening trials and studies. This Network is designed to take advantage of large and diverse populations receiving routine care in a variety of healthcare settings. The CSRN will engage these populations in rigorous studies focused on cancer screening to improve early cancer detection and evaluate emerging cancer screening modalities with the ultimate goal of reducing cancer incidence, and cancer-related morbidity and mortality.

Grant Details
The CSRN Coordinating and Communication Center (CCC) will provide cancer screening expertise and clinical trial leadership. It is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of study operations, as well as the development and implementation of communication activities. The CCC will support the development, organization, and coordination of multi-center clinical trials and studies. It will handle collaboration with the Statistics and Data Management Center (SDMC) and ACCESS Hubs. The CCC's team should have collective capabilities and experience in successfully developing, organizing, and coordinating multi-center clinical trials and studies. It should have a strategy for maintaining network and study documents such as a manual of operations, concepts, protocols, data management systems employed, prior experience with standard NCI tools including Medidata Rave, central IRB experience, oversight strategy for study development, participant accrual, study conduct, on-site or remote auditing for prior trials, data analysis plan, participant recruitment strategies including underrepresented populations.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible organizations include higher education institutions, nonprofits with 501(c)(3) IRS status or without 501(c)(3) IRS status, for-profit organizations including small businesses, local governments, state governments, county governments, city or township governments, special district governments, Indian/Native American tribal governments (federally recognized), Indian/Native American tribal organizations (other than federally recognized tribal governments), federal government agencies or U.S. territory or possession agencies. Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply. Only one application per institution is allowed.

Period of Performance
The maximum project period is 4 years with an earliest start date of February 28, 2023.

Grant Value
NCI intends to commit $1.5M in FY 2024 to fund 1 award with an expected allocation of $2M per year in subsequent years for the CCC.
