Description

This program is designed to assist Native American tribes in improving core library services for their communities. Reflecting IMLS's agency-level goals of championing lifelong learning, strengthening community engagement, and advancing collections stewardship and access, the goals for this program are to: Improve digital services to support needs for education, workforce development, economic and business development, health information, critical thinking skills, and digital literacy skills. Improve educational programs related to specific topics and content areas of interest to library patrons and community-based users. Enhance the preservation and revitalization of Native American cultures and languages.
Background
The Native American Library Services Enhancement Grants program is designed to support the achievement of agency-level goals of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and to facilitate the delivery of significant results consistent with its federal authorizing legislation. The program aims to improve digital services, educational programs, and the preservation and revitalization of Native American cultures and languages.

The program aims to improve digital services to support needs for education, workforce development, economic and business development, health information, critical thinking skills, and digital literacy skills. It also seeks to enhance educational programs related to specific topics and content areas of interest to library patrons and community-based users. Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for an award under this Native American Library Services Enhancement Grants Notice of Funding Opportunity, the organization must be a federally recognized Indian tribe. Entities such as libraries, schools, tribal colleges, or departments of education are not eligible. The organization must be able to document an existing library that meets at least three basic criteria: regularly scheduled hours, staff, and materials available for library users.

Period of Performance
Projects must begin on September 1, 2022. The anticipated period of performance is from September 1, 2022, to August 31, 2024. Project activities may be carried out for up to two years.

$3,300,000 is the total amount of funding IMLS expects to award through this announcement. There are anticipated 24 awards with an expected amount of individual awards ranging from $10,000 to $150,000. The average amount of funding per award experienced in previous years is $137,500.
