ID: CMS-1W1-25-001 • Type: Posted

Description

The Minority Research Grant Program provides funding opportunities to support health equity research. The purpose of the program is to encourage innovative health services research that can directly and demonstrably contribute to improving health outcomes for people from all minority populations. This program also encourages research that focuses on reducing health disparities at the health care system-level. This research will increase interest in characterizing and analyzing the factors associated with health-related social needs.

Background
The Minority Research Grant Program (MRGP) is administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and aims to support health equity research. The program's goal is to encourage innovative health services research that can demonstrably improve health outcomes for minority populations and reduce health disparities at the healthcare system level. This initiative aligns with various executive orders aimed at promoting educational excellence and advancing racial equity.

Grant Details
The MRGP will fund research projects that test promising solutions in existing CMS programs, policies, or practices affecting social determinants of health (SDOH). Researchers are encouraged to evaluate multisector and multilevel programs addressing SDOH factors, such as built environment, community-clinical linkages, food security, social connectedness, and transportation needs.

Projects must assess existing programs without influencing them and should focus on improving health outcomes for racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those in rural or economically disadvantaged areas. Applications must include a project narrative detailing goals, measurable objectives, methodologies, and a budget narrative justifying costs.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include public and state-controlled institutions of higher education, private institutions of higher education, historically Black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, Tribal colleges and universities, Alaska Native-serving institutions, Native American-serving nontribal institutions, and predominantly Black institutions. Organizations may submit multiple applications if each is scientifically distinct.

Period of Performance
Funding will be provided in a single budget period of 24 months over a two-year period.

Grant Value
The expected total funding for the program is $1,275,000 with individual awards up to $212,500.

Place of Performance
