Lifespan Respite Care Program: State Program Enhancement Grants

Background
The Lifespan Respite Care Program, administered by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), aims to enhance the provision of respite services for family caregivers of children and adults across all age groups, disabilities, and chronic conditions. The program's goal is to improve state systems and capacities to deliver high-quality community-based respite care services. This will help reduce caregiver burden and promote healthier family dynamics. The program is grounded in the principles outlined in the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers.

Grant Details
Eligible state agencies will utilize grant funds to advance their statewide Lifespan Respite Care system. Key activities include:
- Expanding volunteer options;
- Ensuring adequate training for respite providers;
- Identifying service gaps;
- Conducting outreach to underserved populations;
- Collaborating with state respite organizations.

Awardees will implement data collection and reporting requirements as mandated by Section 2904 of the Lifespan Respite Reauthorization Act of 2020. The program emphasizes a comprehensive approach that addresses the needs of all populations without preference for specific age groups or disabilities.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include state agencies that administer programs under the Older Americans Act or Medicaid, as well as those designated by the Governor. Only one application per state will be funded, with priority given to states without currently active grants. Applicants must demonstrate collaboration with the state's Aging and Disability Resource Center and a statewide respite coalition.

Period of Performance
The project period spans 36 months, divided into three 12-month budget periods from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2028.

Grant Value
The estimated total funding available is $2,466,000, with approximately seven awards expected. Each award can range from $200,000 to $400,000 per budget period.

Place of Performance
The grant will be performed across various states including the District of Columbia, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and Northern Mariana Islands.
