Description

This NOFO invites applications for a Biostatistics Research Center to participate in ?a? ?consortium aimed at improving understanding of heterogeneity of type 2 diabetes (T2D). A separate NOFO (RFA-DK-23-019) will bring together investigative teams for integration of multiple data types, including markers of organ or tissue function, into analysis approaches for stratifying individuals T2D and developing more precise definitions of disease. The ultimate goal of this effort will be to 1) develop a broadly applicable framework for identifying subtypes of T2D; and 2) increase understanding ofthe physiologic drivers of T2D subtypes to guide development of more effective precision interventions.
Background
This NOFO invites applications for a Biostatistics Research Center to participate in a consortium aimed at improving understanding of heterogeneity of type 2 diabetes (T2D). The ultimate goal of this effort will be to develop a broadly applicable framework for identifying subtypes of T2D and increase understanding of the physiologic drivers of T2D subtypes to guide development of more effective precision interventions.

Grant Details
This NOFO invites applications for a Biostatistics Research Center (BRC) that will collaborate with teams of investigators to form a consortium. A separate NOFO (RFA-DK-23-019) will provide support for teams that will bring together data from existing large cohorts into a consortium which will develop a standardized data analysis approach to incorporate clinical, social, and behavioral data with informative measures of organ or tissue function and other relevant clinical or molecular data types with the purpose of defining subtypes of T2D. The BRC is expected to provide scientific input into the data harmonization and integration and analysis approaches to be used across multiple cohorts to stratify individuals or develop clusters that reflect the pathophysiology of T2D and could inform precision medicine approaches to prevention and treatment of the disease.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, state governments, county governments, city or township governments, special district governments, Indian/Native American Tribal Governments (Federally Recognized), U.S. Territory or Possession, independent school districts, public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities, Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments), faith-based or community-based organizations.
Foreign Institutions are not eligible to apply.

Period of Performance
The earliest start date is October 26, 2023.
The project period can be up to 5 years.

Grant Value
NIDDK intends to commit $4.2 million in FY 2024 to support this consortium.
It is anticipated that awards will be made to one Biostatistics Research Center under this NOFO and up to 3 research teams will be supported under a linked companion RFA-DK-23-019.
