ID: RFA-CA-23-038 • Type: Posted

Description

The scientific objectives of this P20 FOA are to support planning and feasibility studies to integrate cancer health disparities into immuno-oncology research studies. The P20 project will enable complementary, multi-disciplinary research teams to address inter-disciplinary research to integrate cancer health disparities into immuno-oncology research. It is anticipated these feasibility or pilot studies will support the exploration of novel or high-risk research hypotheses.
Background
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is issuing the Integrating Health Disparities into Immuno-Oncology (HDIO) (P20 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) grant to support planning and feasibility studies to integrate cancer health disparities into immuno-oncology research studies. The grant aims to enable multi-disciplinary research teams to address inter-disciplinary research to integrate cancer health disparities into immuno-oncology research. The goal is to explore novel or high-risk research hypotheses related to cancer health disparities and immuno-oncology.

Grant Details
The grant seeks to encourage basic research focused at the intersection of health disparities and immuno-oncology research. It includes pilot or feasibility studies to test exploratory or novel hypotheses on underlying biological differences in immune mechanisms, immune response, and/or treatment response/resistance. Additionally, it involves initial studies to establish sufficiently powered and/or well-curated specimens from under-represented groups in clinical trials, and planning studies to build collaborations/teams, generate resources, or other collaborative research infrastructure.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, state and local governments, federally recognized Indian/Native American tribal governments, and eligible agencies of the federal government. Individuals from diverse backgrounds, including underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and women are encouraged to apply for NIH support.
