Description

The purpose of this initiative is to facilitate genomic research and to disseminate its products to the broader biomedical research community. NHGRI supports both new and existing genomic resources of demonstrated broad value to the research community. Awards under this FOA will support the development and distribution of genomic resources that will be valuable for both basic and clinical genomics research. Such resources include, but are not limited to, those that support: Genomic informatics toolsets, such as biomedical ontologies and analysis toolsets. Comprehensive identification and collections of genomic features, such as functional genomic elements and genetic assay results. Genomic community building efforts, such as standards development. Sample repositories for genomic studies, such as cell line repositories for high-value samples.
Background
The purpose of this initiative is to facilitate genomic research and to disseminate its products to the broader biomedical research community. NHGRI supports both new and existing genomic resources of demonstrated broad value to the research community. Awards under this FOA will support the development and distribution of genomic resources that will be valuable for both basic and clinical genomics research.

Grant Details
This FOA supports a limited number of new and existing genomic resources of especially high value to the broad research community. Resources for which applications will be accepted include collections of analysis tools and software platforms, community data standards and ontologies, production of genomic data, collections of samples or other biological materials, and competitions or cooperative activities for genomic analysis tools.
NHGRI-supported resource projects should offer a novel resource not otherwise available, fill a documented need from the scientific community, have a broad scope that is generally comprehensive across the entire genome, make data, metadata, materials, or software broadly available to all researchers in a user-friendly manner, support and encourage broad use and redistribution of the resource, prioritize the advancement of community standards to enable data aggregation, integration, and broad use.
The FOA encourages collaborations between investigators to integrate resources in ways that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and further the analysis and interpretation of genomic information.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions, nonprofits with 501(c)(3) IRS status (other than institutions of higher education), for-profit organizations (including small businesses), state governments, county governments, city or township governments, special district governments, independent school districts, public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities, Native American tribal organizations (other than federally recognized tribal governments), faith-based or community-based organizations, regional organizations. Foreign institutions are also eligible to apply. Applicant organizations must complete and maintain several registrations as described in the SF 424 (R&R) Application Guide to be eligible to apply for or receive an award.

Period of Performance
The scope of the proposed project should determine the project period. The maximum project period is 5 years.

Grant Value
Application budgets are not limited but need to reflect the actual needs of the proposed project. The number of awards is contingent upon NIH appropriations and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
