Description

This funding opportunity will fund training programs that provide program graduates with the skills and opportunity to seek and obtain environmental jobs that contractors may otherwise fill from outside the affected community. These grants help residents take advantage of jobs across a spectrum of brownfield-related activities, including the assessment, cleanup, remediation, and planning/site preparation for the revitalization of brownfields.

Background
The FY26 Brownfields Job Training (JT) Grants are issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization. The mission of this program is to recruit, train, and place unemployed and under-employed residents in solid and hazardous waste-impacted communities. This initiative equips them with the necessary skills for sustainable employment in environmental jobs. The funding opportunity aims to facilitate community revitalization by enabling local residents to take advantage of job opportunities in brownfield-related activities such as assessment, cleanup, remediation, and planning/site preparation.

Grant Details
The grant will fund training programs that provide graduates with skills for environmental jobs that may otherwise be filled by external contractors. Eligible activities include:
- Assessment and cleanup of solid and hazardous waste
- Chemical risk management
- Stormwater management related to site cleanup
- Planning and site preparation for low-impact development
- Site preparation for green infrastructure installation
- Vulnerability assessment and contamination mitigation planning.

The program emphasizes targeting high-need individuals such as unemployed or severely under-employed individuals, dislocated workers, veterans, and residents from communities disproportionately affected by environmental contamination. Applicants may form coalitions to enhance job training effectiveness.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include general purpose units of local government, land clearance authorities, state-created government entities, regional councils, redevelopment agencies, federally recognized Indian Tribes (excluding those in Alaska), nonprofit organizations (including community colleges), and Alaskan Native corporations. The total funding available for this grant opportunity ranges from $10 million to $14 million, with individual awards potentially reaching up to $500,000.
