Background
The FY2025 Historic Preservation Fund Annual State Historic Preservation Office Grants program is administered by the National Park Service. This funding program supports the operation of State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) across the 50 states, 5 territories, 3 Freely Associated States, and the District of Columbia. The program aims to provide matching grants for the identification, evaluation, and protection of historic properties as outlined in the National Historic Preservation Act (54 USC 3001 et seq). The initiative encourages compliance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and aims to assist various governmental and nonprofit entities in historic preservation activities.

Grant Details
The program provides matching grants to States for various tasks including: survey, planning, technical assistance, physical preservation, compliance with Federal undertakings, Federal tax incentives for historic properties, nominations to the National Register of Historic Places, and distribution of funding to Certified Local Governments. Additionally, it supports Federal, State, and Local Government agencies as well as nonprofit organizations and private individuals in carrying out historic preservation activities. Projects are encouraged to align with the celebration of America’s 250th birthday (America250), focusing on preservation planning and public engagement.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include state governments and nonprofits with a 501(c)(3) status (excluding institutions of higher education). Specific eligibility is limited to state governments as defined in the National Historic Preservation Act. One nonprofit organization, Ohio History Connection, is also eligible as it serves as the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office. Cost sharing is required with a minimum match of 40% from non-Federal sources.

Period of Performance
The anticipated project start date is September 1, 2025, with an end date of September 30, 2027.

Grant Value
The estimated total program funding is $62,150,000. The expected number of awards is 59 with an award ceiling of $2,200,000 and an award floor of $10,000.

The grant will be performed across all U.S. states and territories including the District of Columbia.
