FY2022 - Historic Preservation Fund- Annual Tribal Historic Preservation Office Grants

Background
The funding program supports the operation of Tribal Historic Preservation Offices (THPOs) within allowable program areas described in the Historic Preservation Fund Grants Manual. The purpose of this program is to provide grants to THPOs for the identification, evaluation, and protection of historic properties by such means as: survey, planning, technical assistance, development, education, expansion of the National Register of Historic Places, and to assist THPOs in carrying out the historic preservation activities that the Tribe agreed to assume from the State Historic Preservation Office, on tribal lands, under their Partnership agreement with the National Park Service.

Grant Details
The total funding for this grant opportunity is $16,000,000 with expected award amounts ranging from $20,000 to $200,000. The anticipated award date is September 30, 2022. There are expected to be 207 awards under this program. Eligible applicants include Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized) with signed Memorandum of Agreements with the National Park Service to assume the duties of the State Historic Preservation Office on Tribal lands. Cost sharing or matching is not required. However, there are specific requirements for applications including a detailed budget narrative and justification, project abstract summary, conflict of interest disclosure, uniform audit reporting statement, certification regarding lobbying, disclosure of lobbying activities, and overlap or duplication of effort statement.
