The Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announces the opportunity to apply for funds for the FAA Fueling Aviation's Sustainable Transition (FAST) Grant Program, established under Section 40007 of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. The grant program will have elements focused on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), to be termed FAST-SAF, and elements focused on low-emission aviation technologies, to be termed FAST-Tech. The amount of available funding for the FAST Grant Program is $244.53M and $46.53M for FAST-SAF and FAST-Tech, respectively. The purpose of the FAST Grant Program is to make grants available to eligible entities for projects that support sustainable aviation fuels and low-emission aviation technologies in line with the goals of the United States Aviation Climate Action Plan available at https://www.faa.gov/sustainability/aviation-climate-action-plan

Grant Details
The new Fueling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition (FAST) discretionary grant program will make investments to accelerate production and use of sustainable aviation fuels and the development of low-emission aviation technologies to support the U.S. aviation climate goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Grants will carry out projects located in the United States that produce, transport, blend or store sustainable aviation fuel (FAST-SAF) and develop, demonstrate, and apply low-emission aviation technologies (FAST-Tech). The total available funding for the FAST Grant Program is $244.53M, with $244.53M for FAST-SAF and $46.53M for FAST-Tech.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include state and local governments, airports, air carriers, academic and research institutions, other aviation industry, and nonprofits. FFRDCs and foreign entities are also eligible. The federal cost-share is 75% of project cost (90% for small or non-hub airport awardees). Projects must be located in the United States and ready to begin work by August 1, 2024, completing work within a 5-year max period of performance.

Period of Performance
The period of performance ranges from a minimum of 1 year to a maximum of 5 years.
