ID: DE-FOA-0003545 • Type: Posted

Description

The DOE SC program in Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) hereby announces its interest in basic research to explore potentially high-impact approaches in scientific computing and extreme-scale science.

Background
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), through its Office of Science (SC) and the Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) program, is announcing the EXPRESS: 2025 Exploratory Research for Extreme-Scale Science funding opportunity. This initiative aims to support basic research that explores high-impact approaches in scientific computing and extreme-scale science. It addresses the need for innovative paradigms and methodologies in the face of emerging technologies such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence.

Grant Details
The grant will focus on exploratory research in several key areas:

A) Quantum computation based on topological concepts;
B) Local and Campus-Area Quantum Networking for Next Generation Parallel Quantum Computing;
C) Neuromorphic Computing;
D) Computational Physical Systems;
E) Deep Understanding of AI Models. Each application must substantially address one of these topics, proposing innovative ideas or unconventional approaches that advance understanding rather than extending current research. The expected total available funding is $16,000,000 with an anticipated number of awards being 20. Individual awards are expected to range from $200,000 to $1,000,000 over a project period of two years.
