Description

The Environmental Education Grant Program supports locally and regionally focused environmental education projects that promote environmental stewardship and help develop knowledgeable and responsible students, teachers, and community members. This grant program provides financial support for projects that design, demonstrate, and/or disseminate environmental education practices, methods, or techniques that increase public awareness and knowledge about local environmental issues and provides participants in its programs the skills necessary to make informed decisions and to take responsible actions toward the environment.

Background
The Environmental Education Grant Program, administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), aims to support locally and regionally focused environmental education projects that foster environmental stewardship and cultivate knowledgeable and responsible individuals within communities. The program provides financial assistance for projects that design, demonstrate, and disseminate effective environmental education practices, enhancing public awareness of local environmental issues and equipping participants with the skills necessary for informed decision-making regarding environmental actions.

Grant Details
The grant supports projects that:
1) Increase public awareness and understanding of local and/or regional environmental issues;
2) Equip participants with skills needed to make informed decisions and take responsible actions to protect the environment.

Projects must address both educational priorities related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and environmental priorities concerning clean water. Eligible activities include designing hands-on educational programs, developing AI models for pollution identification, conducting training workshops, creating curriculum modules integrating AI in environmental education, organizing community engagement activities, and facilitating collaborations among stakeholders.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include local education agencies, nonprofit organizations, colleges or universities, state education or environmental agencies, local or county environmental agencies, tribal organizations qualifying as nonprofits under Section 501(C)(3), tribal education agencies, and noncommercial educational broadcasting entities.

Ineligible applicants include for-profit organizations, individual teachers or students, individual schools not classified as nonprofits, tribal education agencies administered by the Bureau of Indian Education, and certain lobbying organizations. Applicants must be located in the U.S. or territories and request between $200,000 - $250,000 in federal funds.

Period of Performance
The project period is expected to last between 1 to 2 years. The anticipated start date for projects is no earlier than October 15, 2026.

Grant Value
$3.2 million is available for this grant opportunity with up to 16 awards anticipated. Each award may range from $200,000 to $250,000 depending on various factors including agency funding levels and application quality.
