Description

The National Institute on Drug Abuse [NIDA] seeks research proposals to identify the effects of anti-retroviral therapy (ART) used for the treatment of HIV/AIDS on neuronal and glial structure and function, particularly when occurring in a background of chronic exposure to an abused drug (including opioids, cocaine and stimulants, cannabinoids, and nicotine). The overall goal is to determine the contributions of antiretroviral [ARV] treatment regimens that are used to suppress viral load in the neurological and neurocognitive deficits that are associated with HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorders [HAND].
