Summary: The Ovarian Cancer Pilot Award supports research that expands or modifies current thinking about and/or approaches in ovarian cancer, exploring innovative concepts or theories in ovarian cancer that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will drive the field forward.

Background
The Ovarian Cancer Pilot Award is part of the Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP), initiated by Congress in FY97 to support research with high potential impact and exceptional scientific merit. The mission of the OCRP is to enhance the well-being of Service Members, Veterans, retirees, their family members, and all women affected by ovarian cancer through research aimed at prevention, detection, treatment, and survivorship.

Grant Details
The Ovarian Cancer Pilot Award supports innovative research that expands or modifies current thinking about ovarian cancer. Projects must demonstrate exceptional scientific merit and innovation. Preliminary data are not required but may be included. Applications must address at least one of the following areas of emphasis:

- Develop novel therapeutic strategies for treatment.
- Identify new strategies for risk stratification, screening, early-stage detection, accurate diagnosis and prognosis.
- Improve care, survivorship and quality of life.
- Explore relationships between military service-related exposures and ovarian cancer.
- Investigate innovative approaches for prevention.
- Understand the basic biology and etiology of ovarian cancer.

The maximum funding amount per award is $350,000 over a period not exceeding 2 years.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural U.S. Department of War organizations, including foreign and domestic organizations, for-profit and nonprofit entities. Principal Investigators (PIs) must be affiliated with an eligible organization and can be postdoctoral fellows or higher. Each investigator may only be named as PI on one application.

Period of Performance
The maximum period of performance for the grant is 2 years.

Grant Value
The total funding available for this opportunity is approximately $4.55 million to fund around 13 Pilot Award applications with a cap of $350,000 per award.

Place of Performance
The grant will be performed within eligible organizations across various geographic locations as specified by the applicants.
