Description

Summary: The intent of the FY25 Toxic Exposures Research Program (TERP) Clinical Trial Partnership Award (CTPA) is to support new or existing collaborative partnerships that will rapidly implement clinical trials with the potential to have a significant impact on the prevention, treatment or management of symptoms, diseases, or conditions associated with or resulting from military-related toxic exposures. Proposed projects may range from small proof-of-concept clinical trials (e.g., pilot, first-in-human, phase 0) designed to demonstrate the feasibility or inform the design of more advanced trials through large-scale trials (including pragmatic clinical trials) to determine efficacy in relevant patient populations.

Distinctive Features: To encourage applications that include meaningful and productive collaborations between investigators, the FY25 TERP CTPA requires partnership of the Initiating Principal Investigator (PI) with at least one, and up to two, other collaborating PIs for the completion of one overarching study.

Background
The FY25 Toxic Exposures Research Program (TERP) Clinical Trial Partnership Award (CTPA) is issued by the Department of Defense (DoD) with the mission to support collaborative partnerships that implement clinical trials aimed at addressing health issues related to military-related toxic exposures. The program aims to facilitate research that can significantly impact prevention, treatment, or management of symptoms and diseases arising from such exposures.

The TERP was initiated by Congress in FY22, with a vision to improve health outcomes for Service Members, their Families, Veterans, and the American public affected by toxic exposures.

Grant Details
The CTPA supports clinical trials ranging from small proof-of-concept studies to large-scale pragmatic trials. Projects must demonstrate meaningful collaboration between an Initiating Principal Investigator (PI) and at least one or two Partnering PIs. The award encourages innovative approaches in evaluating new products, pharmacologic agents, devices, and emerging technologies.

Proposed studies must align with at least one FY25 TERP Program Goal and Topic Area, focusing on military-related toxic exposures. Key areas include predicting and preventing exposures, elucidating mechanisms of adverse effects, diagnosing exposure impacts, developing therapeutics, and understanding multigenerational effects.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include both extramural and intramural organizations such as academic institutions, biotechnology companies, foundations, and DOD organizations. Independent investigators at all career levels can serve as PIs. There are no specific cost-sharing requirements for eligibility.

Period of Performance
The maximum period of performance for the grant is 4 years.

Grant Value
The total funding available for this grant opportunity is approximately $4.2 million, with a cost cap of $4.2 million for each application.
