DoD Military Burn, Technology/Therapeutic Development Award

Background
The fiscal year 2025 (FY25) Military Burn Research Program (MBRP) Technology/Therapeutic Development Award (TTDA) is a burn-focused, product-driven award mechanism intended to support the translation of promising preclinical findings into burn products for clinical application in austere, resource-limited, distributed operational environments.

The MBRP was initiated by Congress in 2011 to address the medical needs of military Service Members who suffer from traumatic burn injuries. The program aims to improve the quality of burn care provided to these individuals, particularly in combat settings where traditional medical resources may be limited.

Grant Details
The TTDA is designed to develop product-oriented technologies or therapeutics, which may include medical devices, drugs, or clinical practice guidelines.

The products developed must address one or more focus areas identified for FY25 MBRP TTDA, such as methods to prevent and treat cold injuries, best practices in acute burn care in combat settings, and interventions that mitigate long-term complications from burns.

The maximum funding available for each proposal is $1.7 million over a period of performance not exceeding three years. The program encourages multidisciplinary collaborations and requires that proposed products achieve a minimum technology readiness level (TRL) of 3 at the time of submission.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include extramural and intramural organizations such as academic institutions, biotechnology companies, and federal government organizations other than the DOD.

Principal Investigators must be at least at the level of Assistant Professor or an independent investigator within the biomedical industry. There are no restrictions based on ethnicity, nationality, or citizenship status for PIs affiliated with eligible organizations.

Period of Performance
The maximum period of performance for projects funded under this award is three years.

The total funding expected for this opportunity is approximately $3.4 million, with individual grant awards capped at $1.7 million.

Place of Performance
