Background

Grant Details
The program aims to advance humanistic knowledge through collaboration between two or more scholars. It encourages projects that propose diverse approaches to topics, incorporate multiple points of view, explore new avenues of inquiry in the humanities, and lead to manuscripts for print publication or to scholarly digital products. The program supports four funding categories: Planning International Collaboration, Convening, Manuscript Preparation, and Scholarly Digital Projects. Each category has specific funding amounts and period of performance. The grant supports sustained activities conducted by the collaborators during the period of performance including salary replacement; compensation of collaborators, consultants, and research assistants; fringe benefits; and travel, lodging, and per diem costs for convening participants.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations recognized as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, accredited institutions of higher education (public or nonprofit), state and local governments and their agencies, and federally recognized Native American Tribal governments. Collaboration among different types of institutions is welcome. NEH encourages collaborations with minority-serving institutions such as Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal Colleges and Universities, Predominantly Black Institutions, Native American-Serving Non-Tribal Institutions, and Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian-Serving Institutions.

Period of Performance
Projects must have a start date between October 1, 2024, and September 1, 2025. Planning International Collaboration and Convening have a period of performance between six to twelve months while Manuscript Preparation and Scholarly Digital Projects have a period of performance of one to three years.

Grant Value
Approximately $2,500,000 will be awarded among an estimated 15 recipients. The grant anticipates awarding Planning International Collaboration awards up to $25,000; Convening awards up to $50,000; Manuscript Preparation awards up to $250,000 (or up to $300,000 for collaborations that include certain minority-serving institutions); Scholarly Digital Projects awards up to $250,000 (or up to $300,000 for collaborations that include certain minority-serving institutions).
